It’s easier to double your conversion rate, than it is to double your traffic has stayed with me for years.
Whether I’m SEO training in-house around England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (Belfast), or delivering Zoom remote SEO Consultations, a few quotes always drop off my tongue. This one is my favourite when a website is eCommerce and the business owner reports there’s a lot of traffic but less than 1% conversion rate.
Are you an old timer, fondly remembering the days of Ask Jeeves and Dogpile? When Yahoo chat rooms were popular, and MSN chat with A/S/L was the distraction after a long day in the office?
If you remember life pre-Google, then you must be my age. Let’s talk – Book a 20 minute discovery call online today. Schedule an appointment with my online calendar and we will chat over the phone so you can ask FAQ and you know you’re speaking to me in person.

eCommerce Shopify, WordPress and Magento 2 Digital Marketing - SEO Google Ranking and Data Analytics Reporting
Established back in 2008, I’m celebrating 15 years in business. My SEO career started by ranking items in eBay and running my own 12″ vinyl record store online in 2004 before I knew what Search Optimisation was called.
Fascinated by the internet I was determined to help others who don’t have time to learn, or who have found themselves in the deep end or with a Google ranking problem. I’m your gal, and I speak your language.
Each booking is unique in terms of what the client needs, whether your website is custom HTML or a platform such as Shopify and WordPress. Effective SEO methods are exactly the same for Google ranking regardless of how your website was built.
Hire me on a day rate for 6 hours of my time, I’ve been hired by Digital Agencies in UK, Europe and global to train teams in specialist areas for a single problem in one day. You can hire me on-call in blocks of 6 hours, if you need ad-hoc support over a few weeks.
KPI’s and deliverables will be agreed in writing before we agree to work with each other. I do not offer Agency or client training at this time due to a heavy workload. In exceptional circumstances, an hour’s training session could perhaps be potentially agreed, but that would involve bribery with a nice Chablis.

How would you like to work with each other? Depending on your corporate guidelines, or your preferred way of working with a freelancer I’ve usually narrowed it down to 3 options:
- The client and I never speak directly, all communications are handled by the Digital Agency Account Manager
- I’m introduced as the remote SEO representing your company. You may feel that you’d like to create a domain name email for me to communicate with the client, with all replies copied in
- I offer a £50 commission when the referral leads to onboarding with my 30 Day SEO Booster package.
eCommerce Migration Shopify Magento WordPress - Domain change, Google Verification and Swap To New - How To
Have you considered the SEO implications of swapping platforms?
Before you begin the migration process it’s essential to track your Google rankings, their positions in SERPs and exactly which Google page and the position in which your website ranks.
For example, you sell blue widgets which are for left handed people, and you also sell blue widgets for children
Using Chrome Incognito, type in your search terms and log the results:
* “Blue Widgets Left Handed UK”
* “Blue Widgets for Children UK”
Let’s say you’re on Google page 2, position 6 for “Blue Widgets Left Handed UK” but not bad with “Blue Widgets for Children UK” on Google page 1, position 3.
Around 85% of traffic hits Google page 1 positions 1, 2 & 3 as a whole, so it’s important to retain your rankings for this product page.
When you change platform, the URLs may change, with Shopify the URL structure is a Collection, in Magento, you name your own category so that’s bespoke.
Potentially, all of your store URLs could break so:
- bluewidgets co.uk/adults/left-handed/
- bluewidgets co.uk/children/
To Shopify with their Collections URL structure would be:
- bluewidgets co.uk/collections/adults/left-handed/
- bluewidgets co.uk/collections/children/
If you don’t rank in Google, then it’s not as critical as my explanation, depending on the age of the domain (You mention 6 months, has the website been live for longer than this?) When did you buy the domain?
If your entire livelihood and food on the table, mortgage and bills replies on organic traffic from search engines you’ll need to ensure you have mapped out every URL on your website and applied a 301 permanent redirect from the old URL to the new one.
Your sitemap URL may also change, so this needs to be updated in Google Search Console.

My time was booked for the whole of Monday, from 9am-5pm and I presented to their team of 10 web developers. The day was very casual and laid back, the flow seemed to be that I would get questions thrown at me and I would answer them ad hoc. The boss took me for lunch at a posh restaurant, following this was the main event – I made live changes to the new website we had launched together a few weeks previously. Earlier on, we had sat down and discussed choosing search terms, from the ‘not happening for 3 years’ keywords, to the more achievable long tail search terms. During the ‘Live SEO’ sream which was broadcast on a large screen, the staff watched me SEO a website in real time, asking questions now and then. When we said our goodbyes, they asked: How long will it take to get to Google page 1?eCommerce Digital Marketing and Online Sales Advice
Back in January 2017, Google announced that it would penalise websites that feature intrusive pop-up adverts when updating the algorithms used to rank keywords in rankings. Offending websites and pages were more likely to be dropped down the Search Engine Results pages, so if you had a pop up on a popular blog post or product for sale that used to rank in SERPs, that URL would be deemed for doom.
I Leave Most Websites With an instant Pop Up
No, you’re not having my email address
No, I don’t want exciting offers in my inbox
No, you are not sending me a monthly newsletter selling me something I’ve most likely bought already
Personally I hate these kind of websites, many of my clients say “Well, I’ve got 200 email sign ups a month! It works!” and as a Digital Marketer I ask the all-important question “Tell me how many of your email database have converted into cold hard cash, how much revenue do your email newsletters generate? Can you attribute any of those transactions to the popups?” and that’s where lack of conversion tracking and data mining can make a difference to the bottom line.
Google Webmasters Blog for Chrome Users vs Pop Ups
“Pages that show intrusive interstitials [elements that cover the content] provide a poorer experience to users than other pages where content is immediately accessible,” as published in the Developers Google Search Central Blog
Fast forward from 2017 to today, there’s many a website I see with an instant pop up, especially prevalent it seems with Shopify eCommerce websites as this popular platform allows individuals with little to no coding skills to build and publish. Genuinely, I understand the budget limitations of small businesses but sometimes that spills over into desperation for visitors to hand over their contact information in exchange for a 10% off your order voucher.
Domains with http had a shake up in – Mobile First Google Results
Back in time Google began to highlight non-secure hhtp pages containing password and credit card input fields as Not Secure in the URL bar.
The SEO gossip correctly predicted that in the future all websites should be SSL / HTTPS.
If you’ve got time, do a little housekeeping and verify your domain and all four versions of where your domain can reside as demonstrated here.

SEO Consultations - Zoom Video Call for WordPress and Shopify
There’s a difference between an hour’s consultation and SEO training. There are blurred lines between helping a client understand specific semantics when referencing their website, but often I am forced to steer away from delving deep into a subject that takes minutes to explain, to keep the consultation flow on track.
I’ve developed a routine for my consultations, they always begin before we speak with a Google Analytics healthcheck and a nose around your Search Console data. A large 90% of times there are improvements to be made in the back end of Google Analytics, with the introduction of GA4 Analytics you’re forced to put the right information in from conception of the profile, but I get the feeling a lot of sole traders won’t be migrating their data in time for July 2023.
We then discuss the history of your business, what year you bought your domain, what changes have been made to your website historically and where you envision yourself in 12 months time to years in advance. It’s common for clients to share that they are building up the business in preparation for selling, some sole traders just want to worry less about their order volumes, or services bookings like a local carpet cleaner for example.
Oh crikey, so today I’m going back through my old posts in a systematic fashion and I found myself frothing at the new wonder Google+ feature that was announced in January 2017 which included a free Google website. Years later, Google plus was discontinued – with a lot of derision – the flop of the social media challenger must have been a bitter pill to swallow.
Google Maps, Google+, Google My Business and Google Business Profile are different versions of each other as the platform evolves over the years and probably depending on how much coffee the devs have had.
