SEO Expert UK Consultant Google Ranking Methods

My SEO methods have been honed since 2008 when I worked as the Funky Pigeon SEO Google Expert and guiding them through a rebrand from their old company Remind4U

It doesn’t matter whether you own an eCommerce platform website, or you’re looking for local SEO geographically targeted on a WordPress CMS.

On-Page SEO vs Backlinks – 30 Day SEO Booster WordPress Case Study Facts

Google ranking cannot “just happen” with just backlinks. Buying backlinks is bad, mmkay?

I feel frustrated when I see website owners asking on forums how to buy backlinks, but their homepage, category landing pages and Shopify eCommerce collections devoid of text. Zero keywords. No discernable target search phrases. Below is some information from 2014 when Google rolled out the ‘skinny content’ part of it’s algorithm.

If you can’t write about your own business then the only other option you have is to Hire an SEO Copywriter who delivers exceptional results in 30 days.

SEO Booster in 30 Days

There’s a lot of people searching the internet for the search phrase SEO Booster and I’m loving that, this has been my moniker from the very formation of my company.

30 Day SEO Booster is suitable for:

Decades ago it was common practise to write multiple pages of content about a similar topic, particularly in industries where you might offer the same service in different areas of the country or city such as ‘window cleaners in Nottingham’ and ‘window cleaners in Leicester’. Whilst duplicate content has never been good practice, this kind of approach used to deliver the desired result of being number one for local or specific searches. But no longer.

Back in 2014, Google had started to crack down on what the company calls ‘thin content‘; pages with little or no added value. Google’s examples of what thin content is include content taken verbatim from other websites (known as ‘scraping’) and automatically generated content, written by a computer to optimise for a certain term.

SEO Words Per Page – Blog Post – How Many?

Over the decades Skyscraper Content of 1,000 Words for SEO has slapped everyone round the face with a wet fish. Zero backlinks are required intially to demonstrate ranking signals to Search Engines such as Bing, Google and Yahoo! Genuinely all you need is time, and with that time you start writing a journal, a diary, making notes, jotting keywords on post-its (my personal favourite) or even creating a draft blog post on your website and keep adding to it.
Like this blog post, published first in 2014 and updated years later. Google trusts domains that are 2 years of age and older, and this goes for your URLs as well.

Personally I recommend 400-500 words for your home page, and important landing pages and blog posts. Prioritise the pages on your website that you would like to rank.

Product pages come lower down in the hierarchy, the main aim is to rank your website for your main search phrase – products tend to rank pretty easy in Google, especially for your brand name (Like ‘SEO Lady’)

Always write for vistors first – content is king – but with search engines in mind as a secondary focus. Spiders will crawl your site, so will bots, your textual content will be indexed and quite often is impossible to scrub from the interet, be genuine, give information in a well-written  manner, encourage visitors to stay on your website.

Extra long page titles that display in SERPs with words cut off…

The title which appears in Google search results is usually the title you’ve given the page on your website, but did you know there is a character limit?

Page Meta Title – 70 characters including spaces are displayed, so ensure your most important keywords take priority at the start of your title and include an exact search phrase whenever possible.

Many websites are having their titles cut off in Google – even eBay.

This means searches don’t get the full picture on what your page is about and the number of people clicking through to your page may decrease as a result.

Domains with keywords in the title

There’s no denying URL structure is an important SEO factor. Including target keywords in your site’s URLs helps Google understand what the pages are about, but over the past few years Google claims to have de-prioritised exact match URLs as a ranking factor.

So while having the web address superlondonvanhire.com might have once have been a big help in getting to number one for ‘London van hire’ searches, this old school technique has lost its power.

15 Years Later – SEO FAQ’s from my client still include “Well I want my keyword in the domain as that’s a ranking factor” Oh, no it’s not.

Google will always focus on quality content, keyword relevence in on-page content and online reputation more than URL relevance.

Buying Backlinks

Any SEO worth their salt knows how important getting links to a website is, so whether you’ve been doing your own SEO or hired someone to do it for you, it’s likely the topic of building links has cropped up.

In the not-so-distant past, paying for links from relevant (and often irrelevant) websites was rife in the SEO world, despite Google saying this was against their guidelines. After warning webmasters for several years to avoid this practice, Google finally put their money where their mouth is in 2012 with a major algorithm update called ‘Penguin‘. It aimed to de-value poor quality, paid links and increase the value of links from authoritative sources.

Key indicators to Google that you have un-natural links pointing to your website include a high link:domain ratio (e.g. thousands of links from one site), over-optimised anchor text (e.g. many links using the exact same words to link to you such as ‘hair salon in Croydon’) or links from websites where you can submit content including a link for a fee.

Websites such as ahrefs.com allow you to see who links to your site, how many times and what the link text is.
