I bought the SEO Lady domain back in January 2012. Prior to this, my original domain 1weekseo.co.uk was registered in 2009 when I was working for Comfy Living furniture in Bridgwater.
Over a couple of years I slowly built a client base before I took the decision to quit employment and dedicate every waking hour to building my own business. So, I converted a room into an office, spent a fortune on an ergonomic chair and desk, a new laptop and launched a freelancing business on People Per Hour.
In my adult life I’ve lived through 35 years of B2C, B2B, Direct, Telephone and, eCommerce and the Digital Marketing evolution. I’m fascinated with Google’s continual algorithm nuances, and it’s my job to be your leading lady of Video SEO for YouTube and Vimeo.
25 Years Experience with eCommerce since 2001
As a sole proprietor and a woman in business, I’ve carved my own path in the digital world, thriving in the ever-evolving landscape of SEO and eCommerce. My journey began long before “digital marketing” was a buzzword—I’ve been online since 1997, exploring the untapped potential of the internet.
In 2001, I made the bold decision to quit my day job and launch my first eCommerce store, selling pre-loved vinyl records to music lovers worldwide. It was a leap of faith, but it laid the foundation for the thriving business I run today. Once I’d sold out of records, I transitioned to an eCommerce Digital Marketing role locally in Somerset, where I honed my skills further. During my three years there, I achieved a milestone I’m immensely proud of: growing my employer’s turnover from £2 million to £5 million – a testament to the power of learning strategic digital marketing online, alone.
Now, as a remote SEO consultant with 17 years of experience, I’ve built a reputation for delivering results, even without the face-to-face networking many professionals rely on. My career has been defined by self-driven innovation and a commitment to staying bang on track with every Google and YouTube update in an industry that’s continually evolving.
Every challenge I’ve faced and every success I’ve achieved has reinforced my passion for helping businesses harness the power of SEO to grow and thrive in the age of LLM generated images, copy and code.
Let’s work together, your success is my success!
Freelance SEOs work independently, rather than being employed by one specific company, which means I’m always working with multiple UK clients at once on a monthly basis. As an independent sole trader I’m responsible for a large portfolio every month to improve the online visibility of their website, target free Google Featured Snippets and constantly monitor search engine rankings of a wide variety of websites.
When a client leaves me a review or texts me to tell me they are at the top of Google page 1, the feeling is quite indescribable. It’s a mixture of elation with a lot of happiness and pride in my work. My client is making more money and they are extremely happy, win-win relationships are a big drive to encourage myself to communicate effectively with each client in their own, unique way and let them know I appreciate their continued investment with me.
My company began trading in 2008 as a side hustle whilst working as the SEO for Funky Pigeon in Bristol, when you’re employed for 40 hours a week, and commuting for another 10, my daydreams were wishing I could work from home. I’d successfully ranked their website to the top of Google, beating Moonpig on page 1, now that the domain is dominant UK nationwide I’ve kind of worked myself out of a job. What is better than Google page 1, position 1?

SEO Somerset, London to England UK Remote Freelancer
A business idea formed in my mind, I would write a case study about my success, build a website and rank it for “SEO Freelancer UK” and “SEO Bristol and Somerset” to attract local clients. Working for just one domain isn’t too exciting as I’d found out, I’d relish the opportunity to work with a multitude of clients, keeping their websites fresh, and having fun by visiting each new client that signs up.
London SEO clients face the biggest SEO competition as the capital city of the United Kingdom, many businesses were founded before Google was launched in 1998. Maybe you remember the dot com boom, the era of the 90’s that bought us mobile phones and text messaging for the first time. The dot com era of the 1990s refers to the period of economic boom driven by the widespread adoption of the internet and the proliferation of companies, mainly in the United States, that focused on providing products and services through the World Wide Web. This era was characterized by a significant increase in investment in internet-based companies, also known as dot-coms, as well as a rapid expansion of the number of companies launching websites and going public.
During this period, many new businesses were created and went public with the goal of providing goods and services over the internet, and investors were eager to invest in them. The stock prices of many dot-com companies soared as a result. However, many of these companies had not yet turned a profit and were using their stock prices as a way to raise more capital. This led to a bubble in the stock market, which eventually burst in 2000.
The dot-com boom also led to the creation of a significant number of new jobs in the technology and online industries, and many people became overnight millionaires as a result of the high valuations of their dot-com stock options.
In the decades that followed, HTML websites originally built using HTML were slowly fading out to the popularity and ease of using a CMS; WordPress, who launched their CMS in 2003, Shopify in 2006 and Magento in 2008.
Likewise for Birmingham, an industrial city in the Black Country, only an hour away from my home in Weston-super-Mare, the businesses in this area also echoed the history of CMS revolution and evolution. Overall, the dot com era of the 90s marked a significant turning point in the way we live and work and the way we interact with the internet. It has had a lasting impact on the way business and commerce is conducted, and it is considered as the starting point of the digital revolution that the world is currently experiencing in 2023.

A manual penalty is applied by human reviewers at the search engine, as opposed to an algorithm, after a review of the website.
The website owner will receive a notification from the search engine explaining the penalty and the reason why it was applied. A toxic backlink Google manual penalty is a penalty that is applied to a website by a search engine as a result of having a large number of low-quality or spammy backlinks pointing to the site. This is very serious.
Negative SEO can also result in backlinks that point to a website from other sites, as they are used by search engines to determine the relevance and authority of a website. However, having too many low-quality or spammy backlinks can be seen as a sign of manipulative link building practices, and search engines will penalize the site by lowering its search engine rankings or removing it from their index entirely. There’s only been one case of NSEO that I’ve handled and I’m proud to say I’ve got a 100% success rate with Manual Penalties, NSEO and Toxic backlink Google disavows.
The best backlinks are the ones that you don’t ask for, when people find your content and republish on their blog, with a valuable source back to your original article, so writing with flow and accurate details and proven case studies is a key flair when writing for someone else.
My business will never scale up, I prefer the autonomy of being a sole trader and as an older lady, experience does come with age in terms of confidence when dealing with different personalities.

Search Engine Optimisation Tips for UK Small Business
What are the top 3 tips you’d give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1 – If you are thinking of building a website do not wait to hire an SEO after it’s live, a high percentile of business owners aren’t aware that a website Developer is not an SEO; they are two totally different nice skill sets. Sometimes you can find a unicorn but they are difficult to hire (always busy) and very expensive (high hourly rate) so from a specialist point of view you’ll need an SEO at the design stage of the website for Google ranking benefits before the website launches.
2 – It’s possible to hire an SEO after your company website has been live, ! love it when you’ve had no previous SEO work as this means I’ve got carte blanche to deploy my methods direct in the back end and make a difference in just 30 days.
3 – If your business website isn’t ranking, usually it’s down to size. Low pagination websites require new, fresh content, usually in the style of a monthly or bi-monthly blog post. If your website isn’t ranking to Google page 1, hire an SEO copywriter to write enticing sales copy for your business.
