Google Chrome: UX, SEO and SXO
We all know that the Chrome://site-engagement feature probably won’t replace the depth of data from Search Console, it does strap on another element to understanding your user interaction with engagement data. Remember, the goal is to keep users engaged and coming back for more – not bouncing like a cheese down a British hill once a year.
Google Chrome’s API Limits Announced: 2024 with Efficient Tab Loading for UX
How can this improve your SEO roadmaps for 2025? For those digital marketing beginners still wearing their L plates, let’s chat about why you might not bother with Chrome’s site engagement feature when you’ve already got Search Console offering more data than you can shake a stick at.
Now, why would a Chrome user organise lists based on engagement levels, like the most visited sites on the New Tab Page or which tabs to discard when memory is low? Well, it’s all about efficiency and prioritisation. Chrome wants to make your browsing experience as smooth as possible, keeping your favourite sites at your fingertips and discarding the ones you barely glance at when resources are tight.
So, does this mean Google’s cutting down on its API calls and processing load?
Possibly, but let’s focus on WHY the big G would organise lists based on engagement levels – like the most visited sites on the New Tab Page – or pondering which tabs to discard when memory is running low.
It’s all about efficiency and prioritisation. Chrome wants your browsing experience to be smoother than a dolphin in baby oil, keeping your favourite sites at your fingertips and shedding the ones you barely acknowledge when resources are stretched.
From a cost-saving perspective, reducing processing load is a no-brainer. Less energy consumption means lower operational costs – something any accountant would applaud. But beyond the balance sheet, there’s a bigger picture.
Perhaps Google is moving towards a greener, more sustainable, and carbon-neutral browsing experience. In an era where environmental responsibility isn’t just fashionable but essential, tech giants have a role to play.

DIY SEO Presentation: Learn How to Boost Your Website
If you’re a YouTube content creator or freelancer looking to optimise your website but don’t have time to learn coding, this DIY SEO guide breaks it down into simple, actionable steps that can improve your website’s performance.
*Sonic The Hedgehog Cheat Codes That Still Work in 2025
As I alluded in my opening paragraph, the cheat codes for Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) were inputted using specific button combinations on the controller, typically during certain screens or gameplay. One of the most famous cheats is the Level Select code, and there were a couple of variations:
Level Select Cheat
At the title screen, when you see Sonic and the logo, do the following:
Press Up, Down, Left, Right on the D-pad.
Then, press A + Start simultaneously.
If done correctly, you’ll be taken to the Level Select screen, where you can choose any stage.
Debug Mode Cheat
This allows you to place objects and explore the levels freely.
Activate Level Select (using the cheat above).
On the Level Select screen, highlight a stage and then:
Press C + Start to enter Debug Mode.
Once in Debug Mode:
Press B to toggle between Sonic and the debug cursor.
Use A to cycle through objects.
Press C to place the selected object.
Extra Lives Cheat
On the title screen, press Up, Down, Left, Right (as in the Level Select cheat).
Start the game and collect 100 rings to earn an extra life. This works in all Sonic games, but you can stack the benefit in Debug Mode.
What’s the difference between the Sega Megadrive and the Genesis? The Sega Mega Drive was renamed to the Sega Genesis for its release in North America in 1989. The reason for the name change was due to trademark issues—the name “Mega Drive” was already registered by another company in the United States.
In other regions, such as Japan, Europe, and Australia, the console retained the original name “Mega Drive.” This dual branding sometimes leads to confusion among fans, especially 1971 UK players who were today years old when they uncovered this tidbit about video gaming for the first time (yes, me).

When did this all begin with gaming and 1980’s PC’s? Chapter 1: The ZX Spectrum and the Council Estate
Picture it: a humble council estate in Somerset, England. Little Nina Payne, an inquisitive girl with scruffy trainers and an insatiable curiosity, wanders into the world of computing. In the early 1980s, while other kids were bickering over who had the best Action Man, Nina begged her family for a ZX Spectrum—perhaps the most cutting-edge piece of kit a pre-teen from the council flats could imagine.
With the determination of someone who has no time for nonsense (and possibly an aversion to playing outside), Nina dove headfirst into BASIC coding. You see, for her, “Hello, World!” wasn’t just an introductory phrase—it was a mission statement. She began programming with all the dexterity of someone who’d later wrangle algorithms like a true Somerset warrior. Her early years on the Spectrum weren’t spent gaming—no, no. Nina was writing her own code, her version of fun involving far too much trial and error with ‘syntax error’ flashing back at her endlessly.
Fast-forward to the late 80s, the decade of shoulder pads and questionable perms, where young Nina was already surfing the nascent internet while others were still fascinated by teletext. The Spectrum had given way to more sophisticated computers, and Nina was busy making websites for her friends and watching them fail on dial-up. It was the start of a 24-year career in ranking everything from eCommerce to, well, more eCommerce. Ah, the early signs of a long future in making online retailers very, very happy.

Chapter 2: 1997 – Search Engines, Sleepless Nights, and Self-Employment
By 1997, when search engines were little more than digital rummage sales, Nina Payne had already established herself as an eCommerce wizard. The search landscape back then was a bit like the Wild West—less John Wayne, more broken links and spinning GIFs. It was a magical time where anyone with a mouse, a keyboard, and enough caffeine could find their way to the top of the search results if they knew the right tricks.
And oh, did Nina know the tricks. From AltaVista to Yahoo and Ask Jeeves (may it rest in peace), she spent endless nights tinkering with website structures, chasing that elusive top spot. She was the sort of person who’d learn by doing. If there was a mistake to be made, Nina had already made it. Twice. Then written a case study on it, with screenshots, of course.
Self-employment came naturally to someone like Nina. Two people have told her that she’s unemployable. One client called hr “harsh”. Twice. She liked to do things her way (translation: nobody else was doing it right). The ‘agency life’ wasn’t for her, and so, she started down the path of the independent SEO freelancer—long before anyone really knew what “SEO” stood for. Armed with wit, grit, and several cups of tea, Nina has been her own boss ever since. What else was she going to do? Get a normal job? Please.
For those looking to improve their own SEO, this DIY SEO presentation is an excellent place to start. Whether you’re a small business owner, freelancer, or digital agency apprentice, it’s full of helpful tips.
Chapter 3: Cheques, Chip & PIN, and The Death of Fear
I watched with grim amusement as chip and PIN phased out cheque books in England, and the public, in a classic display of British resistance to change, collectively lost its mind. “How can we ever trust a computer with our money?” they wailed. Well, I’ve been online since the late 80’s but much more prolific since 1997.
In a world where people thought “Google” was a funny word, back then, search engines were about to change the game forever. I embraced it all—Google Search, Amazon Search, YouTube, Bing, Reddit—always staying one step ahead. Watching people resist LLMs and AI today is much like the cheque book fiasco: just another case of unnecessary fear.
